Secret art sale offering works by international artists

You could unknowingly purchase a piece by an internationally-recognised artist…

An online art exhibition in aid of a good cause will be selling affordable original art this week — with an unexpected twist.

Priced at just €50 each, you won’t know who produced the art until you buy it. Along with emerging artists, art students and illustrators, there will be pieces by international artists up for grabs, including Padraig Timoney, Douglas Gordon, Kat Ennis, Lorraine Fenlon, Jonathon Dickinson and Gareth McConnell.

The Secret Art Sale is to raise valuable funds for One In Four, which helps survivors of child sexual abuse. It will begin on One in Four’s website at 9am on Thursday 1st December and will be live for ten days.

Just an idea of the kind of art you’ll be able to buy in the online sale

Deirdre Kenny, One in Four’s Advocacy Director said the response from Irish artists for their fundraiser has been “incredible”.

“Donations of art work has flooded into our office. The Secret Art Sale has come at the right time. Demand for our services has never been so high. Many people who have been sexually abused as a child struggle all their lives with feelings of anxiety, shame, loneliness and depression.  We want to be there for each and every one of them, the sale of the art will go directly to supporting the next survivor who contacts us.”

Michelle Ryan, an artist involved, added: “Art allows us to reinterpret life through a new lens. I believe art can be a social vehicle that shifts perceptions and changes in society. Survivors of child sexual abuse and charities that support them like One in Four really need support and for people to understand the impact they are making.”

Taking part in the Secret Art Sale means One in Four can provide valuable therapy hours to survivors to fully explore the impact childhood sexual abuse has had on their lives, to deal with the painful emotions and to move on with their lives free from the trauma inflicted upon them as children.
