Accessories to style your outdoor space

Get ready for BBQs, garden parties and dining al fresco with these pretty pieces for the garden or patio

Sostrene Grene

Even the smallest, simplest outdoor space can be transformed into an oasis for you and your loved ones to gather and soak up whatever sunshine we get this summer. Making the most out of your patio, garden, decking or back yard is all about working with what you have, making it comfortable and injecting some personality and interest with the right accessories.

Pattern can do wonders — floral prints set the tone for gorgeous garden tea parties, while simple stripes instantly add a summery, Breton aesthetic. Hanging fairy lights or strands of festoon lighting make a space more inviting, encouraging conversations to continue beyond dusk. Don’t forget a few throws and cushions, as that extra little touch of comfort will entice you to linger for longer, to read a few more pages of your book, or even cosy up for a nap in the sun. Think of practicality too. A side table for drinks and nibbles is handy, as is a tray or couple of baskets for carrying out snacks and supplies. If you’ve the space, a fire pit or chimnea is a showstopping centrepiece that will keep you cosy too.

For more brilliant ideas for your outdoor space, check out the May | June issue of Irish Country Magazine.
