Bored of porridge? Try these light fruity breakfast pots that are perfect for warmer days

Meal boredom is a reality during lockdown, and porridge is often the culprit. Rather than giving into the temptation of swapping porridge for pastries, try the overnight oats trend for a creamy, sweet breakfast that is just as nutritious.

Oats have been proven to help lower cholesterol, improve blood sugar control and prevent constipation, as well as being full of good carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins and minerals. Top it with fruit and you have a powerhouse breakfast.

Here, the foodies at Aldi share three different overnight oats recipes to shake up your morning breakfast:

Blackberry and Apple

  • 40g oats
  • 70g blackberries
  • 40g apple sauce (try Bramwell’s Apple Sauce from Aldi)
  • 8g chia seeds
  • 20ml maple syrup or honey if not vegan
  • 160ml milk of choice (this recipe works well with almond)
  • Topping: Extra blackberries and apple slices

Raspberry and Almond Butter (vegan)

  • 40g oats
  • 70g raspberries
  • 40g almond butter
  • 8g chia seeds
  • 20ml maple syrup or honey if not vegan
  • 160ml milk of choice
  • Topping: Extra raspberries and flaked almonds

Blueberry and Mixed Nut (vegan)

  • 40g oats
  • 35g blueberries
  • 35g mixed selection of dried fruits and nuts (raisons, peanuts, almonds, cashews)
  • Pinch of ground ginger or cinnamon
  • 20ml maple syrup or honey if not vegan
  • 150ml milk of choice (this recipe is nice with almond)
  • Topping: Extra blueberries and a mix of dried fruit and nuts

Method:

  1. These keep well in the fridge for up to five days.
  2. Mix all the ingredients together, put into a jar or glass, cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least four hours).
  3. Add the toppings on the day you are going to eat.
