Arran Street East is an award winning, independent pottery studio based in the Markets area in Dublin and it was born from the search for a simple, hand-thrown ceramic pot in great colours. The brand was founded in Dublin in late 2014 and since then it exhibited at many international design festivals and was featured in national and international press. In 2019 Arran Street East was the Overall Winner and Home Category Winner of Irish Country Magazine Irish Made Awards.

Arran Street East pots are all thrown by hand in our studio in the heart of Dublin, making each individual item an almost bespoke piece. We throw every piece to pre-determined geometric shapes and it takes a week or more to make from beginning to end. Each piece is stamped with our signature “A”, inspired by the old-Irish A on the Arran Street East street sign. It’s a challenging and labour-intensive range to produce, as there’s no forgiveness in straight lines. We think of ourselves as architects in clay, and the tessellating shapes of our pots and mugs are a cornerstone of our identity. Inspiration is drawn from the city that we live and make in, in particular the Victorian Fruit and Vegetable Market of Dublin. Our aesthetic is founded on an appreciation of simple, functional and beautiful objects. We mix our own glazes and the colours are inspired by the fruit and vegetable from the Market and the architecture of Dublin: Pomegranate, Lemon, Cabbage, Blue Slate, Black Steel and Copper Green to name a few. Our tableware range includes mugs – with or without handles, tea pots, jugs and vases, plant pots and bowls and plates. Our expert potters keenly share their passion and knowledge and since 2016 we have been running introductory throwing classes in our calm, light-filled classroom where we cater for total beginners as well as people with some pottery experience.

Arran Street East ceramic range is for people who love simple, hand-made, functional and beautiful objects. Our customers appreciate good design – pieces that are useful and stunning and we strive to produce pottery that is for the everyday; it performs well in keeping tea or coffee warmer or colder depending on which shape the customer chooses; and it is aesthetically beautiful. Something that the people who buy Arran Street East really value is the individuality of each handmade piece, the elegance in the way it adorns any interior but also the precision of the making.
