If you’ve been hiking and sea swimming all summer and need a change, here’s what to try for your next fun day out

As we all holiday at home in Ireland this summer, it’s vital to find fun activities that will make a weekend away or day trip more exciting. Trying something a little different that will push you out of your comfort zones is one way to capture the holiday feeling. Here are a few businesses around Ireland to check out for your next fun outing and don’t worry, they’ve all got Covid-19 precautions in place.

Make a splash at an aqua park

Let loose and try your best to navigate a tricky series of climbs, with the risk of falling into the water — or simply dive in and make a splash! Let’s Go Hydro is just outside Belfast, Baysports water park is located in Athlone, Ballyhass Aquaparks has two locations in Cork, Mallow and Coachford, or try Harbour Splash in Dun Laoghaire. It’s a fun challenge that will test your strength, and you will certainly get used to falling in as it gets quite slippy. All ages will love the chance to slip, slide, climb and dive their way along the inflatable obstacle course.

Axe Club

Dublin and Wicklow

Channel your inner viking and test your skill with axe-throwing at Axe Club. It may look scary, but axe throwing is really fun, safe and easy to learn. You can book in a group or just go as a pair to one of the public weekend sessions.

When you arrive, you will get a basic safety introduction and acxe throwing instruction. The whole session lasts about 60 minutes, and it is run as a competition.

Kayak at dusk or dawn

Kayaking is always fun but timing your paddle with sunrise or sunset makes for a breathtaking experience. Kayak through the islands of Lough Corrib in Galway as the sun sets over the Connemara Mountains with KayakMór, or rise at twilight to watch the sun rise along the Wild Atlantic Way with Ecoatlantic Adventures in Donegal. Or try the moonlight/starlight sea kayaking experience with Atlantic Sea Kayaking in Cork.

Zip through forests

Brave heights and embrace the thrill of ziplining. There are loads of options all around Ireland, including Zipline and Octagon at Castlecomer Park in Kilkenny, and Zipit in Lough Key in Roscommon, Farran Wood in Cork and Tibradden Woods in Dublin. Fun for kids and adults alike, these adventure parks allow you to jump and climb your way through the trees and are a really challenging and exhilarating day out.

We have received amazing support and you have shown that you have faith in the changes we have made. For the foreseeable future, numbers will remain reduced due to Covid Procedures so we advise anyone who is making plans to visit us in Dublin, Cork or Roscommon, to pre-book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. #makeabreakforit #hiddenheartlands #adventuredublin #ringofcork #staycation2020
