There was some incredible fashion on display at the annual event at the Curragh Racecourse, Co Kildare
One of the standout events in the sporting calendar is the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby which takes place every year at the Curragh Racecourse, Co. Kildare. The race attracts the very best horses and jockeys in the world, all intent in competing at the highest level in a bid to seize derby glory.
Now in it’s 17th year, the iconic event took place at the Curragh Racecourse, Co. Kildare on Sunday 30 June and was won by Los Angeles to give trainer Aidan O’Brien a record-extending 16th triumph in the race. Ridden by jockey Ryan Moore, Los Angeles finished three-quarters of a length clear of Sunway in second place and a further half-length in front of the 6-4 favourite Ambiente Friendly.

Naturally, it was also a day of high-octane glamour as it featured the highly anticipated Best Dressed Lady Competition – not surprising when the prize up for grabs was a trip to Dubai with flights, five nights at The Jumeirah Creekside Hotel and a spending spree of €500 at Dubai Duty Free, all courtesy of the airport retailer and title sponsor.
Liz Maher from Bagenalstown, County Carlow, was the lucky lady to be crowned Best Dressed on the day and took home the coveted prize.
Liz looked very elegant in a white suit which she said is a trusty piece in her wardrobe and has had several days out at the races over the years. Her look was a celebration of Irish fashion as the headpiece was from Caithriona King Millinery and her suit was by designer Julie Caulfield in Kilmore Quay in Wexford.
