Whether you’re treating yourself to a fresh manicure to brighten up days working from home, or supporting your favourite local salon, channel the current mood with deeper shades.

Autumn tends to herald a move towards classics. Jewel tones and sophisticated neutrals work well with classic autumn wardrobe staples like muted knits, camel coats and a return to dark blacks and navies. Here are the shades to polish up with now, from iconic brands and environmentally-friendly options:

Cult favourites

Try: Essie nail polish in Bordeaux, from Boots (€6.66). This deep wine red shade is a classic that will be a go-to in the season ahead.

Try: CND Vinylux in Mercurial, Millie (€10.76). This muted metallic has an inviting warmth to it.

Try: OPI Fall-Ing for Mulan, from lookfantastic.com. The new Muse of Mulan collection features oranges, browns and teals.

Try: Chanel Le Vernis in Vibration, Brown Thomas (€25.58). This ultra shiny deep pink is a perfect statement nail colour.

Environmentally-friendly

Try: Nailberry in Ring A Posie, lookfantastic.com (€16.95). This vintage shade is gorgeous for daytime, and is vegan and chemical-free.
