May 25th marks the second anniversary of the vote to repeal the 8th amendment. This moving film captures that incredible journey
This week you can watch acclaimed documentary When Women Won for free via the Irish Film Institute.
Anna Rodgers directs this 50 minute documentary about the highs and lows of the tumultuous campaign to repeal the 8th. It looks at the seismic shift in Irish society, with archival footage dating back 35 years. The tragic death of Savita Halappanavar motivated three Irish feminists to establish a grassroots, women-led movement. Grainne Griffin, Ailbhe Smyth and Orla O’Connor led the charge, inspiring volunteers in every county in Ireland, to join the movement which went on to secure a landslide victory.
