Hate to be blunt, but we can’t decide how we feel about the square toe trend

Mules, flats and even boots are squaring up for 2020. Would you embrace the trend?

Sometimes elegant, more often out there, the square toe is not for everyone. Sure, we have seen some subtle blunt or snipped toes before, but there is definitely a move this season towards more dramatically horizontal edges.

You wouldn’t think such a simple detail would have such a powerful effect but it really does transform the look of an otherwise simple shoe.

Squared shoes of all heights are all over the high street — we’ve checked everywhere, as you can see below.

Zara and Mango have heavily invested in the trend, playing with volume and height. We can’t decide if this trend will grow on us, or whether it’s one of those trends to watch warily from the sidelines.

We’re all for a bit of 90s revival, but is this a step too far?
