World Mental Health Day: It's #TimeToTalk

Today, it's World Mental Health Day which is an excellent reminder to check in with yourself and your loved ones. You never know who could be in need of a sympathetic ear.

It's #TimeToTalk this World Mental Health Day according to Pieta House's new campaign. You may have noticed the Pieta House contact information printed on Lyon's Tea boxes. Whether you've a history of mental health issues or notice someone around you is feeling a bit down, today is a good day to start asking your loved ones if they're okay.

Today is a reminder of the wise words Pieta House founder Joan Freeman shared in the pages of the magazine in the June 2016 issue of Irish Country Magazine. "The one step Ireland could take to further prevent suicide is for more of us to be aware of the warning signs and to not be afraid to step in. Think of the ad for strokes and recognising the signs. That ad isn’t for the poor unfortunate having the stroke, who can’t do anything; it is directed at the people surrounding that person. My one wish for Ireland now is that I want everybody to know the signs of suicide so that they too can reach out and get help for that person. That would slice the suicide rates in half.”

As well as looking out for others, make sure to speak up if you're going through a tough time yourself.
