Blessed be the fruit! Margaret Atwood has finally confirmed the rumoured sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, and it’s due out on 10, September 2019.
She announced on Twitter that she is currently working on the book, The Testaments, and that it is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene — the moment the car door closes and she is driven off to an unknown future. Three female characters will narrate, and Margaret quoted her inspirations for the book were the questions her readers had for her about Gilead over the years, and pointedly, “the world we've been living in”.
Yes indeed to those who asked: I’m writing a sequel to The #HandmaidsTale. #TheTestaments is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene and is narrated by three female characters.
